Teach English In Korea: Massive EPIK Job Cuts {50% In Daegu DMOE} And How This Affects You

Hey every, important update here for everyone thinking of teaching English in Korea.

If you’ haven’t heard, the Korean government has been downsizing the EPIK program for a while now, with big changes coming in the form of middle and high school position slowly being phased out of all schools.

Yesterday it was announced to all government school teachers in Daegu, Korea’s third biggest city, that 50% of all current positions will not be available next year. So watch the video to find out more details and how this affects you if you want to come teach here

EPIK Job Cuts

Okay so that’s the current situation with EPIK job cuts. Apparently the exact numbers are a reduction from just over 200 positions to 100. Some current teachers will be able to re-sign and some were planning to leave anyway but either way it’s unlikely any new teachers coming in through EPIK will be placed in Daegu at all.

So things are looking all the more competitive with government school jobs so be sure to apply early for EPIK and look into other options such as hagwons.
