Can You Teach English In Korea For Less Than A Year? [EPIK, TALK, Hagwons]

If you’ve spent any time at all reading up about teaching English in Korea you’ve probably noticed that just about every job out there seems to be for a period of one year. In today’s video I get into why this is and discuss whether there are any alternatives to these one year contracts and in what cases you can teach for less than a year.

Okay so that’s the deal with teaching English Korea in Korea for less than a year. It might not be what you wanted to hear but it is the reality of the situation.

The upside that I didn’t mention is that it’s a GOOD THING to have a contract for a year in terms of job security. If you work at a government school in Korea your one year contract is a great thing to have cause you know you aren’t going to get booted out half way through the year.

Hagwon jobs are somewhat less because they may go out of business or fire you unfairly, the latter of which you can challenge legally but may not even be worth it due to legal fees and the effort required to do so. Nevertheless, it’s good to have the contract which you can use as reference if it comes down to fighting for something.
