China Bans Foreigners From Teaching English Online To Children – What Are The Alternatives?

China has recently released a new education policy that, where implemented, will ban foreigners located outside of China from teaching English online to young learners in China.

In this new video I talk about:

  1. The new policy and reasons why China implemented it.
  2. The points that will potentially affect online English teachers.
  3. Implementation and the effects we’ve seen so far.
  4. What are the options / alternatives for teachers now.

As you’ll see in the video, it seems quite clear that at least this segment of teachers (foreigners located outside of China teaching online to Chinese children) are being impacted right now. It remains to be seen how things progress moving forward.

That being said, alternatives are available, such as online teaching companies located outside of China, teaching adults in China and teaching in-person in countries around the world. I discuss these more in-depth in the video.

While it’s an unfortunately development that has directly impacted many people, the English learning market of 1 billion people isn’t going anywhere and there will continue to be opportunities abroad and online.
