Teaching English In Korea: What Is A Co-Teacher? (+In Class Footage)

A lot of people have asked me about what a “co-teacher” is when you’re teaching English in Korea at a public school. You may have heard about them when reading up about what the job involves or you may just clicked on this because it’s sounds like something you should know about (hint: it is).

Either way you’ve come to the right place. In this video I explain exactly what a co-teacher is, how your roles within the co-teacher relationship can vary from school to school and also give you some solid tips on how to approach the whole co-teacher situation.

You’ll also get to see some in class footage of my co-teacher in action! So check out the video now 🙂

The Co-Teacher Relationship When Teaching English In Korea

Here’s what the video covers:

  • What a Korean co-teacher and what it means to work with one at your school.
  • How the actual teaching is affected by having a co-teacher: who does the actual teaching and in what cases.
  • Why it’s important to maintain a good relationship with your co-teacher.

Co-Teachers: Your Lifeline When Teaching English In Korea

Your co-teacher also plays a big role outside of the classroom. They are your lifeline when you first arrive, picking you up after EPIK orientation, helping you get settled in, taking you shopping and explaining how to make it to work on your first day.

They’re also the people who you’ll typically be communicating to your school through, as they’ll almost definitely be the best English speaker there.

So, as I mentioned in the video, it’s extremely important to put effort into your relationship with your co-teachers, or co-TEACHERS if you have more than one.
