Vietnam’s 3 Month Tourist Visas Are Coming Back!
I was actually at the War Remnants Museum in Ho Chi Minh City, while we were on this month’s city tour for our new TEFL class, when I got this news.
The big news today is that Vietnam has extended the length of it’s tourist e-visas.
A lot of people have been looking forward to this for a long time!

Vietnam has only been issuing 30-day e-visas, which are non-extendable, so you had to leave the country after those 30 days (and then get a new visa and re-enter if you want to stay longer).
The government has now just confirmed it’s going to extend the length of tourist visas to 90 days again, with a multiple entry option too.
So that’s really great for people wanting to spend more time traveling through Vietnam, and of course people that want to start teaching English in Vietnam, as it’s really helpful having that 90 days upfront instead of just 30 days.
This is because you typically have to come to Vietnam to interview in-person with schools to secure a job. So if you want to come out and do your TEFL course in Vietnam through Ninja Teacher, then you need a certain amount of time to take the course, get a job and then switch over to the correct visa to work on.
So this update to visas just gives you more time. Even though we have a way to work around this, it’s been a little inconvenient only having 30-day visas for people to arrive on so this is great news overall!
The change is set to take effect on the 15th of August 2023. It remains to be seen when exactly the news visas will start being issued.
They are also tripling the amount of time that people can get visa-free arrival. There are only a limited number of nationalities that qualify for this but those that do will get 45 days instead of the current 15.
So let’s wait and see what the final details are but overall it’s great to see this change happening!
It’s good news for people wanting to move to Vietnam to start teaching English (or just travel in Vietnam and enjoy this beautiful country!)
